Scrying powder is generally used as a ritual aid to help create the right atmosphere and intention for divination, visions, and spiritual reflection. It isn't a single historically standardised substance; modern practitioners may use different herbs, resins, minerals, or symbolic powders depending on their tradition. Our mix includes mugwort, rosemary, frankincense and yew cut from a tree in a cemetery.

 Common purposes of scrying powder

• Enhancing divination – Used before or during scrying with mirrors, crystal balls, water, or other reflective surfaces.
• Creating ritual atmosphere – The scent, appearance, or act of scattering the powder can help mark the transition from everyday activity into ritual.
• Focusing intention – The powder can represent a physical manifestation of the practitioner's desire to receive insight or guidance.
• Opening the mind to intuition – It can be used as part of meditation or preparation, helping the practitioner become quiet and receptive.
  

Symbolically

The powder can be thought of as a threshold tool. You aren't necessarily using it because the powder itself possesses a supernatural ability; rather, its preparation and use can help establish a particular ritual mindset. 

How to use

1. Prepare your scrying bowl and add water. you may want to practice dark and light coloured bowls and see which one works for you.
2. Find a quite place to meditate and ask your questions out loud and take a small pinch of the powder and scatter over the surface of the water.
3. You may wish to stir with your little finger of your left hand. 
4. Pay close attention to any clearly defined shapes and allow the lines and curves to show you symbols.
5. Record all shapes and symbols even if they do not mean anything in the moment. 
6. Unlike Tarot, there is no defined meanings, scrying is a non linear practice and requires  a foundation in knowledge of both occult and personal symbols.
7. Note: even though symbol knowledge is important your own intuition and gut feeling are extremely important.
