Wednesday 19th March - Tarot 101; History and Introduction
The Talk
Tarot decks, and their use in divination, are part of the practise of Cartomancy - using cards to explore the future and connect with the Divine. This informative Tarot 101 evening will take us through its rich background, from 17th Century French courts, to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the early 1900s, and through to Aleister Crowley in the mid 1900s. You will be guided through using cards, the types of decks available, and what to expect from different decks.
Suitable for beginners, or those who want to know more about the background of this intriguing divination tool, this Tarot 101 event is intended to give new practitioners and curious bystanders an overview, before taking part in future workshops which will explore specific cards, suits and decks in more detail.
The Practitioner / Facilitator
My name is Olivia. I'm what I like to call a scholarly witch, because research is a huge part of my practice, and I have been practising for 13 years. I have a BA and an MA in philosophy, and wrote most of my essays in these subjects in defence of the craft. My specialisms are the tarot and alchemy, though I'll research and investigate almost anything. On a personal note, I have a wonderfully supportive partner named George and I have a very fat fluffy black cat called Jess.
The Venue
Please note that the venue is a gorgeous, quirky space up some steep and narrow stairs, so this event is unfortunately not suitable for those with mobility issues.
